Minimum wage – what is it, exactly?
In Poland, the minimum wage is a nationwide standard and applies regardless of region, industry, or employee qualifications. It is reviewed annually and can also be calculated as an hourly rate.
What is important to note that the minimum wage is not necessary the one amount. It can include all components of personal remuneration, such as bonuses and awards.
What is does not include, however, are specific payments, such as: anniversary awards, retirement benefits, overtime pay, and allowances for night work, seniority, or allowance for special working conditions. This ensures employees receive at least the minimum total remuneration for their nominal working hours.
Minimum hourly rate and wage in Poland. How much is it in 2025?
This annual increase introduces a new gross minimum wage of 4,666 PLN, up ever so slightly – by 40 PLN – from previous government proposals.
It is more significant, however, in the year by year comparison – in 2024, the minimum wage was 4,300 PLN, so this year or wallets will get around 8.5% thicker (366 PLN).
Additionally, the minimum hourly rate will rise to 30.50 PLN.
When will the new Polish minimum wage go in effect?
The new minimum wage is live since January 1, 2025.
Unlike in past years, where minimum wage adjustments were introduced twice – at the start of the year and mid-year – this change will take effect in one step and remain constant throughout the year.
Why was the minimum wage changed?
The short answer is – inflation. The wage adjustment reflects revised inflation projections for 2025, now forecasted at 5%.
Therefore, the increase of minimum wage aims to preserve the purchasing power of Poland’s lowest-paid workers in the face of rising costs.
