As you may expect, the cost of food varies greatly depending on where you live (a smaller town or a big city like Warsaw), where you shop (a corner shop or a supermarket) or what brands you buy. Fruit and vegetable prices may fluctuate throughout the year due to changing demand and their seasonal availability - that is why tomatoes, for example, can cost anywhere between PLN 5 (in summer) and PLN 15 (in winter) per kilogramme. In general, the average cost of groceries is noticeably lower in Poland than in western Europe, so if you are used to price levels in the euro area, you will be pleasantly surprised on your first shopping trip in Poland.
When it comes to restaurants and meal delivery services, you can easily find a lot of budget-friendly options in Poland and eat your fill without breaking the bank. Usually it is best to look beyond the touristy areas which tend to be the most expensive and check out online customer reviews to find some great-value restaurants.
