Each May in Poland comes the magical time when the two national holidays converge, all to create the perfect springtime occasion.

In comes “Majówka”, aka the long May weekend.

It’s Poland’s beloved spring celebration where work emails go unanswered and grills fire up across the nation. But this year, something’s different: while doubling down on relaxation, Poles are tightening their budgets.

According to the latest Provident Barometer report, the average household in Poland will spend 1,024.80 PLN on the long weekend, 249 PLN less than in 2024. So, where’s the money going, and how do people in Poland plan to spend the long May weekend?

Let’s break it down.

Long weekend plans? Home sweet home

While the Polish mountains and lakes are a lovely sight to see, most people in Poland seem to prefer their own backyards, balconies, or living rooms. About 25% of Poles will spend the time alone or with household members, and nearly 18% plan to visit friends or family (or vice versa). Interestingly, the youngest group (ages 18–24) is leading the homebody trend, with 58.5% planning to chill right at home.

When it comes to travel, 2025 it’s all about keeping it local: less than 15% will explore Poland’s natural gems, and only 5% plan to head abroad.

May weekend in Poland = The thrill of the grill

Nothing says "Polish May Weekend" like fresh air – or more accurately, air with an air of the grill's smoky smog.

63% of respondents want to spend time outdoors, especially those aged 45–54 (a whopping 70.4% of them). And yes, the BBQ is alive and well – 44% plan to fire up the grill, with men leading the charge (48.8% vs. 40.1% of women).

If you’re wondering where the grill masters live, look no further than Lubuskie Voivodeship, where 61.3% of respondents are ready to sizzle. The least enthusiastic? Łódzkie Voivodeship (29.5%).

The great outdoors beckon

Walks are another fan favorite: 43.9% of Poles will be out getting their steps in, with women slightly ahead. Beyond that, about one in three people plan on social gatherings, and 21.6% want to catch up on reading, movies, or other cultural gems.

Longer weekend, thinner wallet

In 2025, financial planning is as much a part of the May weekend as the weather forecast. The majority of us –70% –will fund their fun with current income, while 36% plan to dip into savings. Only 3.4% say they’ll need to borrow money, and most of those will turn to family or friends (so maybe bring an extra burger for your cousin who helped out).

Interestingly, men plan to spend more than women this year – 1,164.20 PLN compared to 885.30 PLN – but about 20% of all respondents don’t plan to spend any extra at all. Around 30% will keep it under 500 PLN, which just goes to show you can have a great time, even if one doesn’t have a great budget.
